Editing Blog

After completing filming the clips at my house and at the beach, we began the editing process. We went through all of our footage and picked the decent clips. We then imported them into iMovie. One of my group members edited the last portion of the video, and the other did the middle portion. While she edited the last part of the video, my other group mate and I helped her out. We gave her suggestions on what transitions to use. If she didn't understand or know how to do something on iMovie, I helped her out by showing her. She added fun transitions to make our video look better. Using iMovie was much easier than using Pinnacle Studios, especially since I already knew how to use it. We all discussed and decided what clips to use in the final product throughout the editing process.
Next, my other group mate edited the middle portion of our music video. My other group mate and I helped her out as well. She kind of already knew how to use iMovie. But, I still told her how to use the editing software if there was anything she was unsure how to do. Editing the middle portion of our music video was a quick process. It was quick because we basically already knew exactly what clips we were going to use. We ended up wanting to change the order of some of the clips. I showed her how to move around the clips. I also told her how to add certain transitions. Next, it was my turn to edit.
During the editing process, I edited the first portion of our music video. We split the editing process up amongst the three of us so that we could each put in some work. We used iMovie to edit our music video. I’ve had experience with iMovie before, so the editing process was easy for me. I helped one of my group mates who was struggling a bit while she was editing. While doing this project, I learned more about the different types of camera shots and angles and how to use them. I also learned more about how to add different transitions to our video and make the editing process easier. In the future, I believe my group and I should plan out our videos slightly more so that we are more prepared. We weren’t unprepared this time, but we still had a few very small moments of confusion and disagreements while filming and editing. I will also improve my editing skills on future projects.

Filming Blog

For our filming process, my group was slightly behind because we were all very busy during Thanksgiving break. We also each had a lot of other homework which was due sooner than this music video, so we completed our other homework before beginning to film. To start the filming process, we went to my house because it is the closest to our school. My mom provided the transportation for us from our school to my house. When we were at my house, we changed into our costumes that fit the song and aesthetic of our music video. We went to the beach to film some clips for our video. While at the beach, we also just hung out for a little and enjoyed the beach once we were done filming. After finishing filming at the beach, we went back to my house. My mom provided the transportation for us from the beach back to my house. We continued to film more clips at my house.

While at my house, we brainstormed some more ideas on what to film. We had ideas from our storyboard, but we wanted to film different clips just incase we wanted to do something different from what was on our storyboard. We used my color-changing LED lights while filming because they create a cool effect. We filmed ourselves dancing to the song of our music video. We made sure it was kind of dark in my room to make the LED lights stand out more. While filming, I made sure we used the shots and angles that we identified in our storyboard. We also decided to add different shots and angles other than the ones on our storyboard. We did this because we realized that we didn't like exactly how the shots came out. We also wanted to have extra clips so we could decide which ones we liked better when we do the editing process. After filming in my room, we cleaned up any mess we made while filming.

To film part of our music video, we walked around Las Olas, which has shops and scenery. While we walked around here to film, we had my mom supervising us. She made sure we were safe throughout the entire filming experience on Las Olas. Since we were in public, we made sure to be very considerate whilst filming. We made sure not to be in anyones way or disturb anyone. We also made sure that wherever we filmed was safe and not sketchy or dangerous. My roles in the filming process were to find transportation and ensure we used the correct shots and angles. My mom provided us the transportation from our school, to my house, to Las Olas. During filming, I made sure that we included the proper angles and shots by referring back to our storyboard. We also made last minute decisions to add different shots and angles to make our music video look as best as it can.

Filming Blog

Since choosing our song, our group has created the storyboard. We have decided where we are filming, and what shots and angles we will be using in each scene. We have decided our filming locations will be at the beach, one of our houses, and along a street that has nice scenery. So far, we have not began the filming process for this music video. My group members and I were unable to begin filming because all three of us were already busy with prior plans the entire weekend. We also have many other AICE classes that we already had work to do for before we were assigned this project. But, this class is very important to us. The distance between where each of my group members live is also very far. It is hard to find a day where all three of us are not busy and can get a ride to wherever we're filming. But, we will begin the filming process within the next couple days.
To film our actual music video, we will be using one of our group members phones. On the last project we did, the Nike commercial, we used the camera provided by our teachers. But, for this project we have decided that we want to try something new. That is why we will be using one of our iPhones instead of the camera. We also believe it will be easier to access the footage if it is on a phone. To edit the music video, we will be using iMovie on one of our computers instead of Pinnacle Studios like we did with the commercial. We found Pinnacle slightly difficult and confusing to use, so we are going to be using iMovie instead. I have used iMovie many times in the past, so I know exactly how to work the editing software. I have found it is not only easier to edit with, but it is less time consuming. Using iMovie will also be simpler because we will be able to dump the footage straight from our iPhone into iMovie.
My role in the music video filming process will be to ensure we have transportation to each of our filming locations, and to make sure we include the correct shots and angles. We will most likely be filming a majority of the shots in or near my house, so I will be in charge of making sure we have safe transportation to each location. Our transportation will probably be provided by my mother and her car. For the shots and angles, I will make sure that while we are filming we are including the right amount of angles and that we are identifying them correctly. I will ensure the shots and angles we have on our storyboard correlate with the shots and angles in our music video. One of my other group mates will be taking on the role of lighting and safety. She will make sure we have good lighting throughout the filming process and that we have the right materials to keep us safe in the unlikely event one of us gets hurt. My other group mate has the role of locations and costumes. She will ensure we are able to film at the location as well as find new locations if needed. She will also make sure the costumes and outfit we wear make sense and correlate with the location and scene.

Storyboard blog

11/22 For the past two class periods we have been going over and discussing our storyboard and planning. We have thought about most of the props we will include like money, make-up and food. We know where most of our settings are like the beach, our teammates home, and Las Olas. We have talked about the costumes and how we will be wearing it. Our group is still figuring out the types of lighting we will include in our video but we know for sure there will be LED and natural sunlight. We want to include natural makeup but a little extra for the end of the film when we are out on the town. Another thing that is important to our music video is camera angles, movements, and shots. For example for our first scene we will be in our group mates parent’s car and our mate’s mother will record a pan of all of us in the car including the background of the beach. We want to include high and low angles of all of us to show where we are and what we’re doing. We also want wide angles of all of us on the beach and couch hanging out and having fun. We want our video to mostly contain hand held instead of using a tripod because we want it to seem like normal teens are recording a young and fun video. For our editing we want to include jump cuts, fade in and out, dissolving to create a nice vibe throughout the video since our song is a fun summer vibe. Our sound is just the song we chose for our music video which is Slide by Frank Ocean and Calvin Harris.

Planning blog

For our music video, my teammates and I will have three listed locations for filming. Our group mate’s house will be used to film calmer scenes of our video. The second location, Fort Lauderdale beach, will be used to film exciting, lively scenes. These will include our group dancing and even going inside of the water. Finally, we will be filming inside of our group mate’s car. In the car we will film lively scenes, as well. The scenes will feature our group dancing and listening to music, particularly this song. We will be filmed inside the car, however, there may be some moments filmed of the outside of the car.
Health and safety will always be number one on our priorities. We will be taking precautions to ensure our health and safety. This includes making sure we are all strong swimmers for the beach. Each of us have taken swimming lessons in the past and intend to use what we learned. We will also check the weather before arriving at the beach to make sure the weather is appropriate. If the weather is threatening, we will choose a different place to film. To protect us from strangers, rapists, kidnappers, etc. we will be carrying pepper spray with us. Our group mate’s legal guardian will also be joining us.
Because we will be at the beach, we will be wearing beachwear such as sweatpants and sunglasses. We will be wearing sweatpants because, although we do live in Florida, it has been cold lately, and we are all anemic. Our props will include pretend cash, which we will be throwing around to demonstrate our wealth, despite the fact that we are not wealthy. We will lay blankets down on the beach for the video. We will also we be using our cell phones. In addition, in the house, we will use colored lights to create a “club” effect.

Intro to Music Video

My group finished our commercial. Now, we are moving forward and beginning to start our music video. While working on our commercial, we faced some difficulties when editing our footage. We struggled to add music at first. But, now after doing our commercial successfully we know how properly edit our video and add music. We are planning on using iMovie for our music video. The filming process was very easy for us when doing our commercial. It only took us a few takes to get the ideal clip. We are going to be using our phones to film our music video instead of using the camera. Everything will most likely go as smoothly with the music video as it did for the commercial.
For our music video, we are doing the song Slide by Frank Ocean and Calvin Harris. It is an upbeat and happy song. We are planning to make the music video very outdoorsy and fun. We chose this song because we like that it is a happy song with a good beat. We also chose it because we believe it will be a good song to make a music video for. The genre of this song is Pop.
For costumes, we are going to be wearing basic, every-day clothing. We want the music video to look modern, so we are going to be wearing normal, modern clothing. For lighting, we are going to be using natural lighting. We are also going to be using color changing LED lights to add a good vibe to the music video. For actors, it is going to be me and my other two group mates. We may include a few friends from outside our group to use as background characters. We will be wearing natural makeup. The natural makeup look adds to the laid back feel of the song. For props, we will be using a car, beach supplies, and blankets. We will also use phones as props and a skateboard. For setting, we will be going to use the beach, a bedroom, and a car. We may also use other locations that we find while editing. We will be doing pan camera movements, medium close up, and tracking shots. There will be no sound because the music will be the sound for the video. We will use jump cuts to show the transition between different settings and scenes.

Editing Blog

Today we continued editing our commercial. We almost completely finished editing it. We placed all the clips in order. We also added all of the transitions in between each clip. All we have left to do is add music and text to the last clip. When we began, I tried to find the 'fade-out' transition on the computer that we could not find in the previous class. I could not find the transition, so my group mates looked for it. One of them found the transition. We used this transition in between each clip. I then cropped some of the clips so that the transition would look smooth.
We switched around the order of the clips a few times. We did this to try and figure out the best order to make the transitions look smooth. We also cropped a lot of the clips. I turned off the original sound of each of these clips as well. I did this because we clearly wouldn't want the original sound to overlap the music. We are going to be adding the music next class. We still have not decided what song we are going to use. We are choosing between two songs. I tried to quickly add a random song to make sure we knew how to do it. But, the class period was about to be over so I didn't have the time to try.
We did not have to do much editing on our commercial today. Our clips did not need much editing to come together to form the commercial. Once the music is added, the commercial will pull together. Today I mainly just added transitions and cropped clips. I also looked around the editing software to see if there were any cool things we could add to our video. I could not find anything that I thought we should add. But, maybe next class we will change our transitions a bit because they are slightly boring. I put one of the more interesting transitions into the video at one point. But, I ended up changing it because it didn't look smooth. We may just leave the transitions as is.

Editing Blog

Today was the day to edit for our commercial. I had some issues with the computer. Our computers are very slow, outdated, had confusion with logging into Pinnacle Studios. There was already footage of another group in our computer. Since we have dumped our footage in the computer we will now start editing. The software Pinnacle Studios is very helpful for our commercial. It allows us to quickly access tools we need to perfect our video. Pinnacle Studios is already installed in the schools Media Studies computers. The software needs a username and password to be logged into. We didn't know the password or username, so one of our teachers had to come over and log on for us.

Most of the time, we were frustrated because we were confused. We expected the editing process to be easier, since when it was described to us it seemed simple. Hopefully after more use of the editing software it will become easier for us. I am expecting more practice on editing with our teacher. We are still not sure if we should delete it or just continue with our editing and disregarding it. We transferred our footage and started to edit. There was much we had to cut out to make the commercial 30 seconds. We had some confusion on adding text onto the clips we wanted. We are planning on adding motivational music to make it like a real Nike commercial. It is important for us to make this as best as we can to get a high grade. Since this is our first video our group has edited we will try to research more on how to edit.

My main emotion is frustration. I came into class expecting to get ahead of everyone because some groups still had to film. That idea was out the door due to all of the complications. I am hoping that next class we get to edit again so we are given more time. I do think we will be given two days for this because we were given two days for the filming process. As a self reflection I wish I would be given more time and more guidance. My group and I will definitely finish editing next class. When I all go home tonight I am going to research more on Pinnacle Studios. I'm going to figure out my problems and watch videos on how to fix them. I pray that next class our computers work smoothly.

Filming Blog

My group filmed our Nike commercial. To start, we had to first sign out the camera, tripod, and SD card. After doing so, we referred to our storyboard, and decided to begin filming on the stairs. For this clip, I recorded using the camera while one of my group mates ran up the stairs. We filmed this scene about four times to be sure we got the right one. After this, we filmed a scene of me hitting a volleyball against a wall. One of my other group mates recorded this clip. We filmed this scene about three times. In between some clips, I carried the camera inside the camera bag.
Next, we moved to the patio to film another clip. In this clip, two of my group mates and I walked down the patio. Our other group member recorded this scene. We filmed this scene around five or six times. After this, we walked out to the track field. I filmed this scene, while one of my group mates ran down the track. In the background of this shot, a member of our group played soccer. We filmed this scene three times. While still on the track, I filmed a clip of all of the Nike shoes we used in our commercial. We then walked back to our classroom.
When we came back to our classroom, we took the SD card out of the camera. We waited for an SD card reader to be available to use. Once one was available, I put the SD card into the reader. My group mate plugged it into the computer. We then created a file, and dumped all of our footage from the SD card into the file on the desktop. After doing that, my group mate returned the camera, SD card, and tripod. We did not use the tripod. I then gave the sign out sheet back to our teacher. I also gave the SD card reader to another group who needed to use it. Next class, we will be editing our commercial.

Storyboard Blog

10/22 Today we planned out our storyboard. We have our commercial planned out and ready for filming. For the first scene we want to start with a stop watch which will eventually lead up to a person in our group running with Nike shoes with an extreme close up. We will then include low angles to transition into the shoes while thy are running up the stairs. Next another person will be running around the track with a long shot, pan, and transition into the shoes. We will have other clips like another member playing volleyball and walking through the halls while all ending up in shoe transitions. At the end of the commercial we will have the Nike symbol at the end

Editing Lesson Blog

Today, we learned about the procedures of using our cameras and editing the footage taken. I learned that in order to get the footage onto a computer, you must use the SD card reader and make a folder to place all your footage. You then dump the footage into the folder created on the desktop. Dumping the footage means taking it from the camera and placing it onto the computer in order to edit. Once all of the footage is dumped into the folder, it is ready to be edited. We then import the footage from the folder into the editing software, Pinnacle Studios.
To delete a portion of a clip that is unwanted, you place the red bar over the clip you want to cut. Then, you click the razor blade icon, which splits the clip. You then click the cut part of the clip that is unwanted, and press delete. If you end up wanting the cut part of the clip back, you press the back arrow, or edit, then undo. We learned how to add transitions into our clips as well. To do so, we right click on the clip we want to add a transition to, open effects trailer, click "transitions in", and add transitions to the clip as wanted. To add a title to a clip, you press the "T" icon, and add the title to wherever it is wanted in the clip. The title must be moved to the first track so that it isn't hidden by the footage, which is on the second track.
To add music, it must be imported into the folder in MP3 form. It is then imported into Pinnacle Studios. The music should be dragged onto the track underneath the footage. To remove the original sound from the footage, you right click on the sound wave icon on the footage, detach the audio from the clip, and delete it. To save all changes made to the edited footage, you press file, then save movie as, save to desktop, save to folder, then press save one last time. To export the final edited product, you click export, settings, make it a MPEG4, in full size best quality, then click start export, save as, then finally save to original folder on the desktop.

Planning Blog For Nike Commercial

10/10 Today we will be going over the planning portion of our commercial. We will set up things we need. For example, our props, costumes, schedule, location list, and our back up plan. Each person in our group is planning on contributing something towards our commercial project. An idea for our project is a view of different Nike apparel in different scenes. Our commercial will be very diverse in clothing. For our back-up plan if someone doesn't show up then we will either have a back-up actor or just have one person do everything. Some scenes we will use are the main stairs, the huge wall next to the stairs, and the track field. A back-up scene could be the gym

Research Conventions and Codes

Our commercial will be about the clothing brand Nike. We want to focus on the shoe portion of the brand and ways it can help in sports. Technical codes are connotations that we make when we look at films and photographs. For the technical codes we will focus on bright lighting, quick editing, music for the audio background, and camera angles we learned in the class. Symbolic codes are social in nature. For the symbolic codes our setting will be in the school, we will have props such as athletic wear such as uniforms as our costumes and any type of shoes used in these sports. Some of the shoes that will be shown will come from sports such as basketball, soccer, track, and regular lifestyle street wear.
We chose this production because it's an everyday product we use and everyone in our group all partake in some certain athletic activity. We want to persuade the people watching our commercial to go out and purchase our product. This will benefit us because when it comes down to prop all of us have something from Nike that we can contribute to the commercial so we don't have to focus on a budget or going out and looking for more products. Our unique advantage is that we are students who are trying to grab the attention from other people like us because we know at this day and age we are all working hard to either enjoy in a sport or make ourselves look better to feel better.

Introductory

Hi, Im Jordyn. Welcome to my blog! To get things started, let me tell you about what I like. First of all, I love volleyball. I have done many sports in my life, but volleyball is by far my favorite. I have been playing it for over 8 years. I am a right-side hitter. Playing volleyball makes me really happy, and it is one of the things I enjoy most. I also love art. Especially painting. I have been doing art since I was very young, and it has always been something that has stuck with me. I don't plan on pursuing art as a career, but it is something I do often in my free time. I don't have a specific type of painting style I like to do, I just kind of paint whatever idea comes to mind in that moment.
Even though there are many more things that I like that I did not mention, let's talk about some of the things that I don't like. For starters, I don't particularly like homework. Sometimes it doesn't really bother me, but usually it is definitely not something I enjoy. But, I understand why I have to do it, and even though I don't like it, I still do my homework to maintain good grades. Another thing I dislike are chores. I don't mind cleaning, until I'm told to do it. For some reason, once I am told to do the dishes or to clean my room, I don't want to do it anymore. Even if I was planning on doing it.
Now, how about I talk about my classes. I actually like most of my classes this year. My first class is Spanish 2. I enjoy Spanish 2, and it is one of my easier classes. I have always found Spanish class to be kind of easy for me because I am able to pick up on the language relatively quick. My second class is Algebra 2. I don't really enjoy Algebra 2, but I am pretty good at it. I've always been good at math, even though I don't always like it. My third class is Chemistry Honors. I actually find Chemistry to be one of my more difficult classes, but it is still interesting to me. My fourth- and favorite- class is Criminal Justice 2. I want to go into Law Enforcement when I am older, and I find everything about Criminal Justice is extremely fascinating. My fifth class is AICE Media Studies. I like Media Studies because I get to learn about film-making and editing. My sixth class is Study Hall, and honestly, there isn't much to say about that class. I mainly catch up on any homework I may have. My seventh class is AICE English. English isn't one of my favorite classes, but I do find it pretty easy. My eighth and final class is AICE European History. European History is probably the hardest class I take, but I do actually enjoy learning about it.
